Robert Beatty (Hair Police, Burning Star Core), performs in his solo guise, Three Legged Race. He offers Lampo lovers a new project in two parts, Falling Order I and II—one set of melodic drone, one set of rhythmic material, all otherworldly sound.
Beatty favors a stripped down approach, using a cheapo toy drum machine that he has modified and an analog sequencer, with various effects and processing devices.
He explains: “I like the challenge of getting the most out of a limited set-up and attempting to create several different strains of sound to form a cohesive narrative… I’m a huge fan of film soundtracks and often I have a narrative in mind when I perform.” He hopes to transport the audience through that narrative, taking the listener, in his words, “somewhere else.”
Robert Beatty (b.1981, Lexington, Ky.) is a member of psychedelic noise trio Hair Police, a contributor to C. Spencer Yeh’s Burning Star Core, and a solo artist working under the name Three Legged Race. His most recent solo release is the LP, Living Order/Mourning Order (Tone Filth). In 2008 Beatty collaborated with video artist Takeshi Murata and provided several soundtracks for his work, as part of the Stray Alchemists group show at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. He lives in Lexington, Kentucky, where he also maintains the Mountaain label.
