Alessandro Bosetti
Lampo
Alessandro Bosetti premieres 29, a sound/video work, and presents improvised voice pieces using his new Mask Mirror scheme.
For 29, he shot video footage from a Jeep window, driving between Bandiagara and Sangha, Mali. Here, the image of the yellow and rocky landscape is juxtaposed with the artist’s live re-drawing action of the countryside. Bosetti also will perform with his Mask Mirror, a sampler of archived speech recordings. The instrument and software patch, which he developed in collaboration with Harvestworks in New York and STEIM in Amsterdam, interacts with his own voice and reorganizes speech for musical purposes.
Bosetti adds, “Voice, language, misunderstandings, sound-anthropology, relational aesthetics, tone languages, conversations, headphones, geography, unspoken languages, feedback (in behavior and physics), interview, no control, handicap, imitation and mimesis all are favorite themes for me.”
Alessandro Bosetti (b.1973, Milan, Italy) is a composer and sound artist. He is interested in the musicality of spoken words and unusual aspects of spoken communication, producing text-sound compositions featured in live performances, radio broadcasts and published recordings. Field research and interviews build the basis for his abstract compositions, along with electroacoustic and acoustic collages, trained and untrained instrumental practices, vocal explorations and digital manipulations. As a soprano saxophonist, he has developed an original extended technique. He lives and works in Berlin.
Alessandro Bosetti first appeared at Lampo in December 2005. In that performance, which was his Chicago debut, he premiered The Listeners, a sound/video project that he completed in the days immediately preceding his concert. Since its premiere, Bosetti has screened The Listeners around the world, including most recently as part of Metropolis: Counterpoint Berlin at Carnegie Hall, New York City.
