Steven Warwick: Figuring Space (on the Mezzanine) is a special, two-day project from the Berlin-based artist, including the premiere of a new audiovisual performance with texts by Elevator to Mezzanine, written in collaboration with media theorist DeForrest Brown Jr., and a performance-lecture-reading with writer Nora Khan.
Here, Warwick remixes unreleased sound with material from Nadir, his 2016 release that fuses reflective poetics with diaristic snapshots and fragmented melodies recorded during a residency in Los Angeles. Loops and rhythms are stretched out in real time, with a focus on the human voice. The work captures the tensions, unease and uncertainty in a contemporary setting—presented alongside three new E-M texts for Lampo about modern intimacy and millennial culture. The event also features dancer Benjamin Wardell.
