Gert-Jan Prins presents an extended version of Risk, his project for homemade electronics, customized transmitters, television, and AM/FM radio modulations.
In the tradition of David Tudor’s manipulated circuit boxes, Prins’ machines feed back on themselves, spitting out rhythmic patterns of analog buzz and fragments of speech and music. The piece was recently honored by the Prix Ars Electronica, and a new Risk recording has just been issued by Mego.
Gert-Jan Prins (b.1961, IJmuiden, The Netherlands) began his career as a drummer. Over the last several years the Dutch artist has established himself as one of most active figures in improvised electronic music. In addition to his solo work, current collaborations include The Flirts with Cor Fuhler and M.I.M.E.O., the 12-piece Movement in Music Electronic Orchestra. He has played with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Pita, Fennesz and Misha Mengelberg.
