French improvisers Jean-Luc Guionnet (alto saxophone) and David Chiesa (double bass) join Chicago percussionist Michael Zerang, in their local debut.
Paris-based Jean-Luc Guionnet (b.1966, Lyon, France) is a Xenakis student and member of Hubbub, with a magnificent solo organ album on A Bruit Secret. Collaborators include Éric Cordier and Éric La Casa. Guionnet also recently released Sion (w.m.o/r) with Chiesa, Jérôme Noetinger and Lionel Marchetti.
David Chiesa (b.1970, Maubeuge, France) began in music as an electric bass player with various rock bands. Since 1994 he has dedicated himself entirely to improvisation. Chiesa is a member of the artist network La Flibuste, based in Toulouse. He also works with the association Le Clou, based in the Dordogne, organizing the annual Temporary Acts improvisation meeting. In addition to his work with Guionnet, Chiesa has played with several French improvisers, including Frédéric Blondy, Xavier Charles, Michel Doneda, Jean Pallandre, Marc Pichelin and Mathieu Werchowski.
Michael Zerang (b.1958, Chicago) has been a percussionist and composer since 1976, focusing on improvised music, free jazz, contemporary composition and international musical forms. He has collaborated extensively with contemporary theater, dance and other multidisciplinary forms. He has over 50 titles in his discography and has toured nationally and internationally since 1981 with an ever-widening pool of collaborators.
